Denise Cordivano (Mrs. C)

Owner and Head of School since 1996.  I earned my degree from Adams State University in Colorado and am certified in both Elementary and Secondary Education.  I substituted with students in kindergarten through 12th grade.  In 1985, I moved to Pennsylvania and accepted a position as a pre-kindergarten teacher.  I fell in love with the preschool age and decided my true calling was to work with very young children and their families.  As the years passed, I also had the opportunity to teach kindergarten and be the early childhood director at two preschools.

In 1996, I was blessed with the opportunity to invest in the future of Battery Park City by becoming a co-owner of the Nursery.   I travel to PA where my husband, step-son, and two granddaughters live.

New York is a very comfortable place to be transplanted to.  The diversity of family backgrounds, the community spirit, the caring staff and each child’s unique personality make this Nursery a very special place.  I’m proud of the accomplishments the Nursery has made over the years and value the continued support of Judy, Karleen and our wonderful teachers.

Leona Mannuzza

Director of Education, hired May 2018

I earned my degrees in childhood education and special education from the College of Staten Island. Currently I hold NYS certifications in childhood education, early childhood education, and teaching students with disabilities. My first year out of college I worked as a substitute for the New York City Department of Education before obtaining a teaching position in a private preschool. For the next three years early childhood education became my passion. After returning to school to complete my master’s degree program I accepted another lead teacher position in a preschool where I continued to learn and grow as an early childhood educator.
As a young girl I always knew that I wanted to choose a career that would make a difference in the world. For me, working with children and their families is the most important thing I can do to work toward achieving that goal, and every day the children have a positive impact on my life in return.
In addition to being an educator I am also the proud mother of my daughter who has recently graduated with her master’s degree from Rutgers University. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family, taking nature trips, and bicycling.
I am very excited to be joining the team at Battery Park City Day Nursery, and I am looking forward to all of the wonderful experiences I will have with the staff, the children, and their families as we learn and grow together on this journey.

Judy Sklover

Administrative Director and Parent Liaison, hired September, 2003.  I am the mother of two fabulous children who are both alumna of the BPC Day Nursery. My daughter graduated from Tulane University in 2019 and my son is a Sophomore at Binghamton University.  I have a B.S. in Textile Marketing from the University of Rhode Island.  My background was in the apparel industry where I worked full time for many years.  After my company did some downsizing it was time to be creative in my approach to work.

I love working at the Nursery and am taking some Early Education Courses.  One day soon, I would like to go back to school for Early Education Administration.  When I am not working at the Nursery, I can be found at PS 89 where I am the After-school Head for Kindergarten & First Grade as well as a cooking teacher, at home trying to organize my life, or out in our amazing neighborhood.  I love to read, relax at the beach and play board games whenever I have the chance, but best of all I love spending time with my family. I consider it a privilege to see your children grow and develop and am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful Nursery.
