We welcome your family into the Nursery and look forward to getting better acquainted with you and your child. While parents are not required to participate in activities, we do feel that your child’s preschool experience will be enhanced through your involvement. Learning is most successful when there is a partnership between home and school. Parents are encouraged to share their cultural and family traditions. We invite parents to share their knowledge related to the curriculum themes, especially if we’re talking about family, cultural heritage, home, or careers. Parents may choose to read a book, lead a song, or join an art activity. We have an open door policy regarding parent visits. They may join us for snack, lunch, school trips, or class time as long as your visit doesn’t upset your child or disrupt the flow of the class. Posted notices keep you informed of daily activities.
The Parent Group at Battery Park City Day Nursery will put your volunteer talents to good use. The Group meets monthly and provides free babysitting. In the fall, parents can meet each other at the Autumn Soiree while the children have fun at their own Pizza Party. In the spring, we celebrate the year’s culmination with a Family Party. A horse-drawn wagon and carnival games add to the festive afternoon. Monthly “Discussion Nights” provide a forum for parenting questions such as discipline, eating habits, competition, and reading with your child.
